Ven Hammond's brother-in-law, Robert Lee Akins, passed away Friday, December 9, 2005 in Sherman. Graveside services were held Tuesday, December 13, 2005 in the Van Alstyne Cemetery with Howard Smith officiating. Robert is survived by his stepfather, Veneble Hammonds Sr. of Sherman; two stepsisters, Fran King and her husband, Walt and Christi Stahl and husband, William, all of Sherman; two stepbrothers, Veneble Hammonds Jr. and wife, Dianne of Sherman and Michael Hammonds of San Francisco; one sister-in-law, Beth Akins of Paola, KS.; and numerous cousins an other family members. His mother and one brother, Edward McDaniel Akins preceded him in death.  12/13/05

Mrs. Lyons is survived by her children, Peggy Jackson and husband James of Sherman, Robert Lyons Jr. and wife Cindy of Carrollton, and Tricia Heck and husband Jim of San Antonio; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lyons was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Bob and their son James Richard.  12/11/05

Tommy Cox's father, Jack A. G. Cox, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2005 in the Dannel Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Kenneth Dacus officiated assisted by Barry Cox. Interment was at Akers Cemetery with military honors accorded at the gravesite. Mr. Cox is survived by his daughter, Jackie Wilks and husband Tom of Sherman; two sons, Billy and wife, Gale of Tom Bean, Tommy and wife, Lila of Sherman and his wife, Mildred of Denison; four brothers, Royce Cox, Coy Claiborne, John Cox and Charles Cox; four sisters, Zuela Pennington, JoAnn Arnold, Martha Quincy and Abbie Stokes; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  12/08/05

Joey Ulrich's mother, Tommie Ulrich, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2005. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 7, 2004 at Cornerstone United Methodist Church with Pastor Charles L. Stellagene Teague Shelton's miracle grandson, Major Shelton Patton, turned one on November 28, 2005. He is referred to as a miracle baby because he was born 3 and 3/4 months premature weighing in at 1 pound 14 ounces and 13 inches long. He underwent four major surgeries and now shows no signs of major neurological damage or cerebral palsy which often occurs in male infants born that much premature. Major is the first son of Stellagene's youngest daughter, Janetta, and her husband Garrett Patton. Garret's father is Tommy Patton (SHS '65) and his mother was Glenna Campbell Patton (SHS '67). 12/01/05

Linda Rowe's mother, Flonnie E. Rowe, passed away in Lindale, TX. Funeral service were held Friday, November 25, 2005 in the chapel of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale with Rev. Byron Orand and Rev. James B. Blue officiating. Interment was at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Sulphur Springs, TX. Mrs. Rowe is survived by two daughters, Lou Brown and Linda Anderson both of Lindale; sister, Bonnie Ray of Tyler; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 11/28/05

John (Buddy) Dryden's son, Scott Searcy Dryden recently got married to Lesley Tuft from Boston, Mass.  The ceremony was in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and the honeymoon was in Bora-Bora.  Scott works with a venture capital firm in Greenwich, Connecticut and the couple live in Manhattan. 11/14/05

Stellagene (Teague) Shelton's son in law, Jimmy Cookston, has recently returned home after being burned in an industrial explosion and fire while working at Ellis Truck & Auto Repair in Sherman on September 6th. He was burned over 25% of his body and was transferred to Parkland Hospital's Burn Center in Dallas, after several skin grafts he is on the mend. He is continuing with his physical therapy but is back at work doing minimal office work. Many prayers and the Burn Center Specialists at Parkland have really helped in his miraculous recovery. 11/8/05

Jo Ann (Walling) Shaw's mother, Lucille (Lucy) Marie Walling passed away Saturday, November 5, 2005 at the Northeast Medical Center in Bonham. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with  Rev. Jeremy Myers officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors. Mrs. Walling is survived by two daughters, Jo Ann Shaw of Sherman and Sheri Carter and her husband, Jeff of Luella; one son, Fred L. Walling Jr. and his wife, Dianne of Sherman; nine grandchildren, Ryan Walling and wife, Autumn of Forney, Jared Starkey and wife, Heidi of Wylie, Zack Emory and wife, Heather of Sherman, Derek Walling and wife, Chrissy of Indianapolis, Amanda Walling of Sherman, Petty Officer 2nd Class Jacob Shaw of Gulf Port, Mississippi, Mariah Carter of Allen, Eli Carter of Allen, Matthew Shaw of Sherman and Cye Carter of Luella; six great-grandchildren, Angel, Ayden, Jaxon, Wilson, Cooper and Emma; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Her parents, her husband and four sisters preceded her in death. 11/8/05

Suzanne (Young) Welch and daughter Vicky recently celebrated Suzanne's 60th birthday in a big way, a five day trip to Hawaii and the island of Oahu. While there they even got to participate in a Diamond Head Nature Hike with a climb of 560 feet up 227 steep steps, earning certificates for completing this adventure. Although it rained most of the time while they were there, they still got to experience eating some native food and seeing many sights including the big island of Hawaii, the Black Sand Beach, the rain forest, volcanoes, and waterfalls. Some time was also spent on the very famous beach at Waikiki. Suzanne states that "even though the plane trip is 8 hours long, she would go again in a heartbeat." It's no mystery as to why Hawaii was Elvis' favorite vacation spot. 11/7/05

Thomas Edward Skipworth passed away Friday, November 4, 2005 at his home in Howe, TX. Tommy is survived by his wife Gayle; son, Jay and wife Denise of Howe; grandson, Blake of Howe; mother, Vera of Sherman; brothers, Weldon and wife Brenda of Sherman, Mike of Sherman, Bubba and wife Debbie of Arlington, Rick and wife Julie of Howe, sister, Helen Commons and husband  Roland of McKinney. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Jo Clarkston of Sherman; sister-in-law Denise Clarkston of Lewisville. Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Harold Skipworth, sister, Linda Kay; father-in-law, Lee A. Clarkston.  11/6/05

Speed is the CEO of an advertising/marketing agency, daughter Rebecca Wibben is a bank vice-president . Ron and Patsy have 4 grandchildren, Averey 8, Skyelar 5, Audrey 2, and Abby 2.  Patsy is a retired OB/GYN nurse  and Ron is a semi-retired marketing consultant. Judy is survived by one son, Shane Carroll of Pottsboro, TX; granddaughters, Madison Carroll and Lexi Carroll, both of Pottsboro; grandsons, Andrew Carroll and Jett Carroll, both of Pottsboro; sisters, Jan Rains and Phyllis Waw, both of Sherman; brother, Jim Ferguson of Denison; and several nieces and nephews.  Marilyn (Miller) Alexander's husband, Gil-SHS Class of 1962, recently received a Distinguished Ex-Student's award from the Sherman Ex-Student's Association during their annual meeting and awards luncheon. Gil has a bachelor of science and master's degree from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M-Commerce). First working as a geologist for the Montana State Highway Department, he then went on to become an educator in the field of science. In 1984, he founded the Montana Science Institute for high school students to learn how to do scientific research. When MSI grew beyond what he could handle as well as teach, he retired from public school teaching to devote full attention to the institute.
 In addition to his work in science and education, Gil has served as president of the Helena Education Association, president of the Montana Science Teacher's Association, and as executive director of the Montana Academy of Sciences. Gil has since retired and he and Marilyn have moved back to the area and now reside in Colbert, Oklahoma.  10/21/05

George M. Cox has been elected to the board of directors of the United States Navy League (Fort Worth Council).  He is also a member of the Air Force Association and the Fort Worth Air Power Council and works with "The Military Mothers of Fort Worth" at the Naval Air Station-Joint Reserve Base (Fort Worth) in gathering donations for the military personnel deployed to the Middle East.  10/15/05

Jim And Sue Ross celebrated their 35th anniversary on August 1st, they live in Grand Prairie and are both retired from Vought Aircraft Company. Jim spends a lot of his spare time playing golf and Sue spends much of her spare time in helping her sister care for their 91 year old mother who is in a nursing home nearby. Jim is also very active in the Vought Retirees Club. Founded by aviation pioneer Chance Milton Vought, Vought started his own company back in 1917. Over the years Vought has produced over 50 models of aircraft and over 15,000 individual airplanes, Jim is part of a team responsible for archiving articles and pictures related to the company and many of those planes.  10/8/05

The grave of Rev. J. H. Reynolds, Duane Heatley's great-great-grandfather and the founder of Key Memorial Methodist Church, located in Sherman's West Hill Cemetery will soon receive a Texas State Historical Marker. The dedication, which will be at 2:00 p.m. on October 16th at West Hill Cemetery, will also observe Key Memorial's 125th Anniversary. Working on and submitting a family narrative as part of the state marker application process  was a long time project of Duane and his uncle, the late Steve Davidchik. As part of this special ceremony, which is open to the public, Duane will read excerpts from the family history he submitted to the state historical commission and the current pastor of Key Memorial will present highlights of the church's first one hundred and twenty five years.  10/5/05

Andy Wilson Stuckey passed away Thursday, September 29, 2005 at his home in Whitesboro, TX. Funeral services were held Monday, October 3, 2005 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Billy Miller officiating. Interment followed in Mount Tabor Cemetery. Andy is survived by his wife, Velma Stuckey of Whitesboro; 2 daughters, Ginger Ernst and Angie Lemons of Whitesboro; a son, Brian Stuckey and wife Krystal of Whitesboro; his mother, Thelma Stuckey of Whitesboro, a brother, Elmer Stuckey of Leonard; 2 sisters, Mary Stuckey of Sherman and Crystal Stuckey of Whitesboro; and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Turner Stuckey. 9/30/05

Marcia (Ausley) McCall's second grandchild, a girl named Olivia weighing just under seven pounds, was born September 28th at Texas Women's Hospital in Houston. The lucky parents are Marcia's son Chris Barringer and wife Corrine, this is their first child. 9/30/05

Billy Ray Robertson's granddaughter, Megan Renee' Robertson, married Dale Luther "Luke" Rentfrow, Jr. September 10th at the First Baptist Church of Whitesboro. Dr. Ron Wood, the bride's uncle, officiated. Megan is the daughter of Billy and Marsha Robertson of Whitesboro. The couple will be at home in Whitesboro after a trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico.  9/26/05

Chuck Parham, a resident of Kenner, Louisiana, was a victim of Hurricane Katrina but was fortunate enough to have evacuated early and was in Alabama with relatives during the major part of the hurricane and for several days afterward. He has since relocated to the  DFW Metroplex for the time being due to his wife's job transfer and he will be commuting back to the Gulf Area for his job with Halliburton Company. His family's plans are uncertain as they have not yet been able to return home to assess all damages. Property can be replaced, human beings can not so we are glad things are beginning to look up for Chuck and his family and hope their situation continues to improve.  9/26/05

The Dorchester School and community reunion was held recently in Dorchester with several present and former Dorchester residents in attendance. Willies Ballou was elected the new president of the Dorchester Community Association and the next reunion will be held there in July of 2007. Although Willies attended school in Sherman, he was raised in Dorchester and still makes his home there. He and his wife Cathye are both retired from the United States Air Force and now spend a lot of their spare time traveling.  9/26/05

George M. Cox and his wife Debby will be celebrating their 32nd wedding anniversary by taking their 30th trip to Hawaii.  The Islands have become their second home away from Fort Worth.  Both George M. and Debby are Vice Presidents of First International Bank headquartered in Plano where George M. is in charge of operations and commercial lending, Debby is  Vice President/Operations at the branch location in Bedford. 8/15/05

Tom Skipworth's father-in-law, Lee Alton Clarkston passed away Thursday, July 21, 2005 at his home in Sherman. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2005 at Waldo Funeral Chapel with Rev. Danny Wood of West Sherman Baptist Church officiating. Burial was at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Members of Sherman VFW Post 2772 conducted military graveside honors. Mr. Clarkston taught math at Sherman Jr. High School, now Piner Middle School, while our class was there. Mr. Clarkston is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Clarkston of Sherman; two daughters, Gayle Yvonne Skipworth and her husband, Tom and Denise Clarkston; grandson Jay Edward Skipworth and wife, Denise; great-grandson, Blake Edward Skipworth, brother Hilton Clarkston and wife, Markie; a nephew, Reed Williams, who lived with the Clarkstons; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. 7/25/05

Ben (Butch) Ewing was in Oklahoma City Baptist Hospital on 6/28/05 to have two stents inserted to open blockages in two of his arteries. One of the arteries was blocked 60% and the other at 90%. Ben is now at home in Muskogee and doing fine. 7/6/05

Jim Ross and wife Sue welcomed a granddaughter, Erin Mackenzie Thompson, born October 21, 2004 in Nacogdoches, TX. She weighed 9 lbs., 11 oz. and was 22 inches long. Parents are Dr. Mark and Jennifer Thompson. 4/12/05

James Jackson and wife Peggy (Lyons) Jackson ('64) celebrated their 40th anniversary on March 11, 2005. James is a contractor in Sherman and Peggy sells Real Estate. They have three children; Kelly Simmons and husband Mickey of Mason, OH, Robert Jackson of Dallas, and Amy Jackson of Sherman. They also have two grandchildren; James Michael Simmons and Casey Jackson. 3/29/05

Chuck Parham's brother, Glen Howard Parham, passed away February 25, 2005 at the VA Hospital in Dallas. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 in the Dannel Funeral Home Chapel at 7 P.M. Glen is survived by his mother, Martha Parham Harris; his brother, Charles (Chuck) L. Parham IV; his stepsister, Barbara A. Harris; his stepbrother, Joseph W. Harris; his special close relatives, nephew, Charles L. Parham V; niece, Michelle L. Wilson; nephew, Joshua R. Parham; and cousin, Lynn B. Culbertson. Glen was preceded in death by his father, Charles L. Parham III and his grandparents.  2/27/05

Jimmy Cummings' sister, Linda Joyce Cummings, passed away November 3, 2004. Funeral services were held November 6, 2004 at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at Cedar Cemetery in Luella, TX. Linda is survived by her mother Dorothy Cummings of Ida; two brothers, Jimmy and wife Julie of Ida, and John Cummings and his wife Cynthia of Sherman; two nieces, Jennifer Gann of Luella and Lee Ann Sayani of Denison; one nephew, Clayton Cummings of Ida and one great nephew, Brad Gann and one great-niece, Lindsey Gann of Luella. She was preceded in death by her father, Harvey Cummings. 2/18/05

Marilyn (Fulenwider) Smith welcomed her 9th grandchild on January 2, 2005. Ryder Christian Smith is the son of Marilyn's son Trey and his wife Jessica. Ryder weighed in at 9 lbs. 2/18/05

Ted Wilson's father, T. H. Wilson, passed away July 15, 2004. Interment was at Cedarlawn Cemetery July 19, 2004, the honor guard from Ft. Hood conducted military graveside honors. A memorial service was held at Western Heights Church of Christ with Howard Smith and Joe Ed Furr officiating. Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Lena, two sons, Ted Eugene of Oklahoma City, and Richard Lee and wife, Patty of Sherman; two granddaughters, Nicole Chestnut and husband, Chris of Hurst, and Meaghan Vaughn and husband, Zach of Tyler; two step-grandchildren, Albert Staley and wife Jessy of Greenville and Clarissa Goodwin and husband, Robert of Denver, CO and three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Madelyn and Sarah. He is also survived by two brothers, Jimmy Lee and Curtis Wilson of Sherman, and two sisters, Thelma Hoover of Sherman and Dorothy Ireland of Whitesboro. 2/17/05

Judy (Hollis) Webster's mother, Edith Tarpley Hollis, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at the Settlers Ridge Care Center in Celina, TX. Graveside services were held Saturday, February 12, 2005 at the Hampton Cemetery south of Bonham, TX. Rev. Tom Medley of Bonham officiated. Mrs. Hollis is survived by two daughters, Judy Webster and husband Jim of Plano and Karen Mason and husband Mike of Allen; also survived by a brother Leroy Tarpley and wife, Betty of Bonham; a sister Katy Stone of Garland; and three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 2/11/05

Ben D. (Butch) Ewing's mother, Mary Jo Ewing, passed away Monday, January 31, 2005 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Tishomingo, OK. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 3, 2005 at the Wheatland United Methodist Church in Wheatland, OK.  Mrs. Ewing is survived by daughter Shirley Ann Darnell of Oklahoma City; son, Ben D. Ewing Jr. of  Tishomingo; brother, Ralph Henry of Waco, TX; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son, Joe Mack Ewing. 2/2/05

James Ray Vaughn passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at the Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham. Per the family's request there will be no services. James is survived by sons, Jimmy Vaughn and his wife, Denise of Hemet, CA and Michael Vaughn and his wife Patty of Denton, TX; daughter Jenny Twyman of Missouri; mother Lallie Vaughn Killough; five brothers; two sisters; and seven grandchildren.  2/2/05

Wilburn Baker's brother, James Winston Baker, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2005 in Sherman. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 2, 2005 in the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at Akers Cemetery. He is survived by his sons, James Allen Baker and his mother, Betty Pender and Hugh Joseph Baker and wife, Diane of Sherman; daughters, Amber Troxtell and husband Terry and Carolyn Baker of Allen, TX. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; sister, Shirley Cantwell; brothers, Gene Baker, Freling Baker and Wilburn Baker. 2/2/05

Donna (Webb) Shaw's mother, Velma Webb, broke her hip on December 20, 2004 and had surgery on December 22, 2004. She was released from physical therapy on January 8, 2005 and is doing remarkably well, according to her doctors. 1/21/05

R.J. and Patsy (Lillie) Hagood's daughter, Lauren, was married to Charles Means December 18, 2004 in Denison. The couple will be at home in Denison. 1/21/05
